Sophisticated filtering criteria is available for each data set via the Filter panel.
1. Click the button.
2. The Filter panel expands to reveal criteria options.
3. Apply filtering, using the following options/techniques:
o Check boxes to activate/de-activate specific criteria.
o Fields that accept input data. Using the example above, we could specify to search for patients "older than 20 (inclusive), and younger than 50 (inclusive)"
o 'Quick Set' buttons for selecting/de-selecting multiple criteria simultaneously.
o Rules for applying restrictions beyond the standard set of demographic options.
• Click to add a rule. You will be prompted to select a data element to add to the filter. Locate and select an element from the lists provided. You can free-type a keyword into the associated text box to restrict this list to corresponding elements. Click to confirm your selection.
The selected element is added to the filter criteria:
• Click to add a group of rules, and then within each group, add as many filter elements as desired.
The following filter applied to the Measures > BMI data set reads;
o Show all active patients, where the patients are...
o Regular visitors to your practice, and
o Aged between 20 and 50, and
o Of any Gender, and
o Of any ATSI status, and
o Where their Smoking Status (as recorded in Clinical) equals '1' or '3' (i.e. smokers or ex-smokers), and
o Both of the following conditions are met:
• The Code of Assessment of Physical Activity (as recorded in MedicalDirector Clinical) equals '3' (i.e. active), and
• It has been more than 90 days since their last visit to the surgery.
1. Within the Filter section, click The Save Filter As window appears.
2. Either;
o Select an existing filter to overwrite, or
o Enter a name for the new filter.
3. Click Your filter is saved, and added to the list of available filters.

2. Select the filter you wish to load, and then click
To view a list of available filters, click and then click Filter from the drop-down menu.
The Filters window appears, and you are presented with the list of available filters.
o MedicalDirector Insights comes supplied with a number of hard-coded filters. These cannot be edited or deleted. However, you can load a supplied filter, modify it, and save it with a different name.
o Customised filters can be removed (deleted) by clicking You will be prompted to confirm this action.
