Telstra Health wins Business and Industry award at NSW iAwards for Smart Clinician

Telstra Health’s Smart Clinician – a reimagined suite of healthcare management tools now available in MedicalDirector Clinical – was announced as the winner of the Business and Industry category at the 2024 NSW iAwards on Wednesday, 24 July.

Hosted by the Australian Information Industry Association (AIIA), the annual iAwards unearths, recognises and rewards excellence in Australian innovation that is making a difference and has the potential to create positive change for the community.

Now in its 31st year, the iAwards is the longest running and most broadly scoped innovation recognition program in Australia.

Louise Ryves, General Manager of Ecosystem at Telstra Health said “Smart Clinician offers a smarter approach to practice software that not only empowers medical professionals to streamline their practice management, but also helps to overcome clinical trial bottlenecks through the Smart Seek tool.”

“Patients, regardless of geographic location, can now be informed of and participate in clinical trials and contribute to the generation of new evidence via their regular care provider, which helps to accelerate translation of health research into the community to ultimately benefit all Australians. The team and I are proud to be recognised for the way in which this solution is contributing to improved health outcomes.”

After taking home the state award, Telstra Health will proudly represent NSW at the National iAwards in August at SkyCity Adelaide.

About Smart Clinician and Smart Seek

Smart Clinician is a suite of tools embedded in MedicalDirector Clinical that help empowers medical professionals to streamline every aspect of their practice.  The Smart Seek tool is the latest innovation and is accelerating the conduct of clinical trials at scale, to enable the translation of new evidence that can improve the health and wellbeing of Australians.

With potential to reach up to 50% of Australia’s population that sees a general practitioner (GP), Smart Seek assists study investigators to identify, recall and with informed patient consent, reuse routinely collected clinical data for the purposes of data capture for clinical trials.

Smart Clinician capability is embedded within the daily workflow of the software and the Smart Seek tool allows GPs to participate as study investigators in clinical trials without additional effort. This includes receiving in-consult clinical decision support, which screens the practice database to surface patients that meet trial eligibility criteria; and providing lists of eligible patients to recall into practice within a Smart Visual Dashboard (part of the Smart Manager suite of tools).

The Australian-first collection of tools overcomes common challenges of clinical trials allowing them to be performed by the patient’s regular primary care clinician, and accelerating translation of research into the community, ultimately benefiting the health of all Australians.
